AI&I
interactive video installation

My project, AI&I, delves into the interplay between my ADHD brain and artificial intelligence, offering a glimpse into the intricate workings of both and highlighting their differences or similarities. The comparison often drawn between the system of an AI and a human brain intrigued me, particularly in the context of ADHD, where the brain operates differently, lacking a cohesive 'storagesystem', as it was explained to me upon diagnosis. In my mind, associations fire rapidly, traversing various mental pathways in what may appear disjointed to others but follows a clear logic known only to me. This tendency to hop between subjects, seemingly at random to outsiders, is akin to 'hak of de tak' in Dutch—a clear progression for me, but a puzzle for others.

Similarly, AI generates images by associating given input with its vast knowledge base, a process that may seem utterly random to observers unfamiliar with its inner workings. The installation features two facing screens, with the viewer positioned between them. Only upon entering this space do the images and sounds become perceptible, mirroring the understanding that comprehension lies within the system itself. One screen displays images generated by the AI, while the other showcases images I select based on those generated by the AI. This dynamic creates a dialogue, akin to a tennis match, between the AI&I, offering insight into my thought process and associative journey as I narrate my interpretation of the images displayed. Ultimately, it serves to provide a deeper understanding of both my brain and the path of association it follows.
